After The Rain Passed

She looked outside, and the leftover trickles of rain ran down the window. Little imperfect lines streaming down of droplets. She looked longingly outside, the once gray sky now with a bit of sunshine creeping out. Peek-a-boo, it seems to say. She sighs. Breathes deeply. Closes her eyes. Feels a pain in her chest, in her heart. Not an actual pain, like a physical heart attack, but a heavy weight, a burden, that doesn't seem to go away, at least not with exercise.

It takes time, they said.
They are always with you, they said.
They are no longer in pain, they said.

But do all of those reasons validate what you're feeling? Does it actually help to hear any of that? Maybe. Maybe if she took it day-by-day, noticed how her heaviness felt, if she felt lighter, or heavier, or just the same. How much time does it take anyway?
